Elderly feels ill-treated by Telkom
Anna Strauss is frustrated by the way Telkom has been treating her.
ANNA Strauss (84), a resident of Queens Haven Old Age Home, is fed up with the poor service Telkom has been rendering her.
She lived her life in Crown Gardens and moved to Queens Haven last year.
Before moving to Queens Haven, she requested Telkom to transfer her phone to Queens Haven as she is moving out. After she settled into Queens Haven in August, she asked her friend to help her contact Telkom, but that didn’t help either. Anna claims Telkom kept on giving her different reference numbers. She told COURIER she can’t make calls or stay in touch with her family.
“My life is at a standstill. I don’t know if it’s because I’m old. All I want is for my phone to be installed and working again,” she said.
When she has to make a call she must go to her neighbours, and that has made her feel ashamed. She sits on a stool every day waiting for a call from Telkom to tell her they are coming, but that hasn’t been the case.
“I have tried and many people have tried to help me with this. I hope the COURIER can help in getting hold of Telkom for me,” she added.
She said she contacted Telkom in The Glen and Alberton, but neither of them have been helpful.
She threatened to escalate the matter to City Council if she’s not helped soon. One of the consultants from the Telkom call centre said Anna should give them a call and provide them with her identification number, then she will be assisted.
The COURIER tried contacting Telkom several times, but calls ended up being transferred to Telkom’s call centre.
