‘My neighbour’s yard makes me sick’

The yard is believed to be smell and a breeding ground for rats.

A RESIDENT from Moffat View is irate with her neighbour who fails to clean his yard.

The resident, who wished remain anonymous, said her next-door neighbour has all kinds of rubbish in his yard.

The yard is believed to be smell and a breeding ground for rats.

According to the disgruntled resident, the neighbour comes home late at night and departs in the early morning hours, leaving the residents with no chance of confronting him.

The filthy yard also unsettles other residents who stated they don’t know if the owner of the yard is running a scrapyard or what. Other affected residents say the rubbish piles up and dead rats are frequently found at the house’s front gate.

“This isn’t normal. How can a human being live in such conditions? Eat, sleep and call the place home? It’s not a safe environment for our children to grow up in. All I want to see is that the rubbish is removed with immediate effect. This yard makes me sick. It feels like I’m living on a dump,” said the resident.

Ward 57 councillor Faeeza Chame said: “The man must be told to clean his yard because residents can’t continue to live like this. Arrangements to get him plastic bags to dump his stuff in if he doesn’t have should also be made.”

When the COURIER visited the yard there was no one at home for comment.
