Angry Naturena residents demand service delivery

Residents say they don’t have a clinic, sports facilities, police station, speed humps and proper parks like other suburbs.

NATURENA residents are up in arms because they don’t have basic services.

The residents say they don’t have a clinic, sports facilities, a police station, speed humps or proper parks like other suburbs. Residents say when one observes Naturena from afar, it seems as though it has no problems, but it’s a sorely neglected suburb.

What concerns residents is that most of the elderly people have to go to Baragwanath Hospital for medication, and it’s costly.

One of the residents, Zakes Mabote, said the community is fed up with this lack of service delivery.

“We need the councillor to work for us and provide things for this community. We are not being looked after. Even when a crime takes place, we need to report to Mondeor Police Station and they also take their time in arriving here. This needs to stop. Our councillor must come to the party because I believe he is failing us,” said Mabote.

Mabote told the COURIER that many of the young boys in Naturena love playing soccer, but the lack of soccer grounds makes this impossible.

“Young people have opted to hang out on street corners and we know what that may lead to.”

Young people told the COURIER all they want is sports facilities because they have to go to neighbouring areas to take part in any form of sports.

Ward 119 councillor Mangaliso Ngwanye said he is aware of the lack of service delivery in the area and he is trying, by all means, to contact the relevant people to help.
