The full closure will remain in force up until the end of October 2019. The closure was necessitated by the continuous monitoring and the bridge visual conditions assessment which indicated that the structural integrity of the concrete elements is severely reduced.

Since the closure of the M2 bridge, the following work has been done, namely:
1.1 The demolition of the failed bridge structural elements is at 90 percent and the installation of the jacking system at Selby Bridge has been completed.
1.2 The milling and exposing of the existing asphalt to allow for further drainage investigation is currently underway.
1.3 The overall project is on schedule and will be completed by 30 October 2019 as planned.
