UPDATE: South Hills murder and rape accused denied bail

The magistrate granted no bail to the accused and postponed the case to June 26 at the Booysens Magistrate’s Court.

The man who is accused of murdering and raping Silindokuhle Kunene (18) at Fever Tree Complex, a new development in South Hills, on March 26 has been denied bail.

The accused was denied bail at the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on June 4. The lawyer of the accused took the stand and read a statement of the accused’s bail application letter. In the letter, the accused was stating that he is the sole breadwinner and his family depend on him. Also, he’s expecting a newborn and if he is to be granted bail he won’t be a danger to the community.

The state prosecutor outlined to the magistrate how brutally Silindokuhle was murdered. The gallery was full of emotions as Silindokhule’s family wept as the accused was on the stand.

The magistrate said the accused has a lot of contradictions on his affidavit and testimony. The magistrate said the accused has an interesting curriculum vitae following his several convictions. The magistrate told the accused that on the stand he said he was at Silindokuhle’s place three months ago, while on the affidavit its stated he was there two days before the incident.

The magistrate granted no bail to the accused and postponed the case to June 26 at the Booysens Magistrate’s Court.
