Meal packing for the less fortunate

SOUTHDALE Shopping Centre, in conjunction with Rise Against Hunger organisation, hosted a meal-packing event for the less fortunate on July 6 at Southdale Shopping Centre.

Due to the large number of volunteers, people were grouped into two groups with the first starting at 10am and the seconf at 12pm.

People were required to spend only 67 minutes packing and both groups packed about 12 000 meals.

The meals will be distributed on Mandela Day to various charities, including local ones.

Anneke Senekal, Rise Against Hunger representative, said they work with the Early Childhood Development Centre, mainly with children from the ages of one to six.

“One packet of the meals that we pack will feed about 10 children and the food that we pack is easy to cook and to set up,” she said.
