Morobi twins are reaching out to the community of Jackson informal settlement

Twin sisters Fikile and Zandile (21) were born and raised in Soweto, and Fikile has committed herself to helping young girls in the settlement to abstain from teenage sex and drug abuse.

FIKILE Morobi has set the wheels in motion to make a difference in the community of Jackson informal settlement.

Twin sisters Fikile and Zandile (21) were born and raised in Soweto, and Fikile has committed herself to helping young girls in the settlement to abstain from teenage sex and drug abuse.

With the assistance of Zandile, they have been keeping the young girls occupied with netball and they have also formed a group dance.

She said all she desires is to help young girls. This desire was born out of the many visits she received from girls living in the settlement seeking advice.

“Some came to ask me for sanitary pads and clothes. I, therefore, opted to bring them together on a social level and started to introduce them to netball and dance,” Fikile said.

“René Parker, owner of Childreach, has been contributing a lot to our success. She has been donating pads, clothes and netball kits. If it wasn’t for her, I don’t know where I would’ve been today with these girls,” said Fikile.

“People in the settlement love what I do because it keeps children away from the streets,” she said.

The twins are well known in the settlement and people speak about their good deeds.

Fikile also hopes that one day she will open a children’s home.

Some of the children Fikile Morobi keeps off the streets.

“Opening a home is one of the things I want to achieve. I love working with children and if we keep on moving forward at the pace we are moving, I believe I will be able to open a children’s home one day,” she said.

René said Fikile is a lovely girl and a respectful human being.

“She is our netball coach and she works hard in seeing to it that children in the settlement are kept in one place. I love her very much and hope she goes far in life with whatever she desires.”
