Vacant stands cause headache for councillor

Councillor fed up with the vacant stands in his ward.

COUNCILLOR Mongameli Mnyameni is worried about the status of empty stands in his ward, especially in Booysens.

He said the community is angry and they blame him for the state of these empty stands.

According to the residents, the vacant stands are causing unwanted feuds among the community as some residents dump at these vacant stands, causing an unbearable smell.

What worries the councillor as well are the crime activities taking place at these stands and putting children’s lives at risk.

“I have tried reaching out to the City of Johannesburg regarding the concerns of the residents, but nothing is being done.

“As a councillor, it’s my duty to fight and escalate the matters of the people and I will continue doing so,” said Mnyameni.

The most notorious stand residents are complaining about is the one at 11 Fanous Street in Booysens.

Residents want to see the stand sold or turned into a mini-park because criminals have turned the place into their hostel.
