Gender-based violence march in South Hills

Ward 57 councillor Faeeza Chame said in most cases women and children get abused by the people they trust the most.

South Hills’ Khoisan Women’s Organisation and religious churches held a march to protest gender-based violence on June 27, which started at the Recreation Centre in Geneva Road.

As the nation fights the Covid-19 epidemic, gender-based violence continues to affect women and children each day.
The community intended to send a strong message to the abusers, by informing them that it is not right to abuse another human being.

Ward 57 councillor Faeeza Chame said in most cases women and children get abused by the people they trust the most.

“If you know of any person being abused please report them to your nearest SAPS station,” said Chame.

“Abuse can come in many forms like for example sexual abuse, sexual exploitation, forced early marriage, domestic violence, marital rape, trafficking and female genital mutilation. If you don’t speak out you then become part of the problem,” she said.
