DA councillors launch petition to resolve power outages in the southern suburbs

Councillor Michael Crichton said this petition will be submitted to the City of Johannesburg and the councillors will monitor the responses to the petition.

The past few months have seen a power crisis emerge in the southern suburbs of Johannesburg, with the majority of the areas experiencing regular and lengthy outages.

In the light of this, the local DA ward councillors, namely Stuart Marais (Ward 54), Rashieda Landis (Ward 55), Michael Crichton (Ward 56), Faeeza Chame (Ward 57), Sarah Wissler (Ward 23), Tyrell Meyers (DA PR councillor for Ward 124), and Peter Stewart (Ward 125) have launched a petition in an attempt to get the City of Johannesburg’s administration to hear the residents’ plight.

The petition has the following objectives:

· To have the current electrical infrastructure upgraded
· To have all illegal connections removed
· To provide an adequate supply of electricity during the winter months

Councillor Michael Crichton said this petition will be submitted to the City of Johannesburg and the councillors will monitor the responses to the petition.

“It is unacceptable that the residents have to constantly have outages to the point where their food spoils, their appliances get damaged and their children do not have access to warmth. We will not stop taking this issue on until an adequate solution to this crisis is found!” he said.
