Safe and convenient ways to pay and keep municipal accounts up to date during festive season

Residents who can no longer afford to pay the full amount, or at all, are encouraged to come forward to alert the municipality.

The City of Johannesburg is urging ratepayers to make use of the various safe and convenient platforms to pay and keep municipal accounts up to date during the December holiday season to avoid being cut off services.

Johannesburg group finance spokesperson Kgamanyane Maphologela said the City has established safe and convenient pay points that municipal customers can use to keep safe during the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

“In addition to paying municipal accounts at any of the City’s customer service centres, ratepayers can also make use of the Easy Pay points in most retail stores, internet and cellphone banking, ATMs, debit orders or direct deposits in major banks, as well as at the SA Post Office,” he said.

The reminder to ratepayers comes as many customers fail to pay their municipal accounts over the festive season and risk being cut off. Maphologela said, “We understand that many families feel the effects of Covid-19 at this time as many people have either lost their jobs or have taken pay cuts. However, we wish to remind customers that they have an obligation to still pay for municipal services consumed.”

Residents who can no longer afford to pay the full amount, or at all, are encouraged to come forward to alert the municipality.

“Our credit control procedures will continue throughout the holiday season, and we would not like to see a situation where any of our customers find themselves in the discomfort of being without access to basic services like water and power simply because they missed a payment, or did not contact us for a payment arrangement,” Maphologela said.

The City has also put convenient measures in place for customers to contact the municipality during the holidays.
Customers may contact the City by emailing their queries to the following regional email address regionFrevenue@joburg.org.za or they may visit any of the City’s walk-in centres. For region F, visit Thuso House customer service centre at 61 Jorrison Street, Braamfontein.
