Gauteng SAPS confirmed that yesterday’s shooting resulted in five deaths. Provincial police spokesperson Capt Kay Makhubele said police launched a manhunt after three security guards were gunned down at the corner of Dann and Monument roads yesterday afternoon.

“The suspects were allegedly driving in three vehicles – two VW Polo vehicles and a Mercedes Benz with unknown registration numbers.”
Makhubele said the guards, who were travelling in a white Toyota bakkie belonging to a security company, cannot be identified at this stage.
“The driver of the bakkie was injured and later transported to hospital,” said Makhubele.

“A joint team pursued the suspects in the VW Polo from Kempton Park to Benoni. The suspects were eventually cornered in Benoni following an exchange of gunfire.
“Two suspects were shot and killed,” said Makhubele.

Benoni Flying Squad spokesperon WO Grant Giblin previously told Express that Benoni Flying Squad, Kempton SAPS and the EMPD chased the suspects until their vehicle, the VW Polo, came to a standstill at the corner of Beech and Kanna streets in Northmead Extension Four in Benoni.
“A third suspect, who was the driver of the VW Polo, was wounded and transported to hospital where he is under police guard,” said Makhubele.
Giblin told Express the third suspect is currently in ICU.
Makhubele said police recovered two AK 47 rifles from the suspects’ vehicle.
The motive for the shooting is yet to be determined.
