Turffontein copper cable thief sentenced

The suspect was found guilty and sentenced to eight years of direct imprisonment.

Booysens SAPS WO Fanie van Staden obtained a guilty sentence when a copper cable thief suspect was found guilty and sentenced to eight years in jail.

On April 9 last year, at 4 pm, the complainant, who was attached to City Power, attended a complaint of cable theft in the Turffontein area.

When he arrived he found the community with a suspect who had been caught stealing copper cable.

The suspect was handed over to the complainant and he was brought to Booysens Police Station where the suspect was charged with tampering of infrastructure and attempted theft.

The docket was given to and investigated by van Staden.

Booysens SAPS communications officer Capt Lorraine van Emmerik said the management of Booysens SAPS wishes to thank van Staden for his dedication in investigating cases and obtaining this successful conviction.
