Rand Water’s Meredale and Waterval reservoirs critically low

Rand Water recommissioned its infrastructure to restore the water supply.

After the unsuccessful G23/Q2 shutdown that was carried out over the weekend, Rand Water recommissioned its infrastructure to restore the water supply.

During the recommissioning process, an air valve on the Q2 pipeline failed and caused a major water leak in Naturena that required to be repaired.

“Our Eikenhof Pump Station required to be decommissioned to repair the faulty air valve,” said Justice Mohale of Rand Water.

This repair work has now been completed and the recommissioning process has begun. As a result, the Meredale and Waterval reservoirs are now at critically low levels.

“We are aware that some of the areas within Johannesburg Water’s areas of supply are affected by this situation. “We are in constant communication with all our stakeholders to best manage the situation and restore supply as soon as possible. We urge all to use water sparingly to fast track the restoration process.

“We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause,” he concluded.
