WATCH: Shack fire residents benefit from church

The church will be doing the winter drive for these residents and they are appealing to the community to help them with more donations including warm clothes, blankets, food and any other donations they can get.

Total Restoration Worship Centre International Church donated clothes and food to Booysens informal settlement residents on February 27.

A raging fire destroyed hundreds of shacks on January 22, leaving scores of people without homes. Although people have started to slowly build their shacks, the fire had a devastating effect on their lives.

It is in this regard that Pastor Iyke Okezi Okwuagwa decided to use his church as a focal point where the congregants, as well as other members of the community, can donate whatever they can to help the residents of Booysens informal settlement.

The church’s We Care department handled the donations.

“Booysens informal settlement residents had nothing after that devastating fire. Church members together with Igwe Sam’s Foundation donated the settlement possible,” said Iyke.

“Our mandate as a ministry is that we care for man’s physical, spiritual, emotional and social life. We have seen a need and God has placed in our hearts as a family to reach out,” he said.

They will also be running a winter drive for these residents and they are appealing to the community to help them with more donations including warm clothes, blankets, food and any other donations.

The drop off zone is Total Child Academy at 175 High Street, corner Donnelly Street, in Turffontien or at the church at 14 Drakensberg Road, The Hill.
