Event to empower young women to be held

Lusha Initiative Platform (LIP) organisation in Ridgeway will be hosting its annual event for young women in media studies at Constitution Hill on October 1.

Sipho Sibisi, chairperson and founder of LIP, said they have been hosting this event at Constitution Hill since 2017.

“We are urging support in such programmes whereby we are paving a space for young girls in the media industry.

Developing respect towards young women in media, inclusivity is vital and mentorship so they will have an entrepreneurship mindset. We will be hosting 70 young girls and will be having guest speakers from Ukhozi FM, YFM, MDDA, City of Johannesburg, Voice of Wits, and other media sectors.

“Miss Earth SA 2021 Nompumelelo Swelihle Maduna will be our main guest. She will be having some gifts for our beautiful young girls,” he said.

Sibisi is also a lecturer, media personality and community activist. He mentioned that any support from the community of Johannesburg is more than welcome.

“LIP is an NPO. We are passionate about educational programmes and developing the youth of Gauteng and South Africa at large. Our philosophy is about youth opportunities, development, inclusivity and mentorships. We are 70% focusing on young women from basic education and tertiary level.

That’s why we are having young women in media studies, construction and tertiary entrepreneurs. As for boys, we have a manhood programme and art talent development programme, although we also welcome young women in these programmes,” explained Sibisi.
