WATCH: Seniors enjoy Heritage Month event in La Rochelle

Seniors were honoured during a Cross Culture showcase event held in La Rochelle recently.

As Heritage Month came to a close, seniors were recognised during a cross-culture showcase event held on September 30 in La Rochelle.

Region F community stakeholders hosted the event aimed at encouraging mass participation in cultural, sport, creative and health recreational activities.

The event was also aimed at bringing about awareness on social issues and celebrating different cultures.

It was made possible with the partnership of Sanca Central Rand Alcohol and Drug Centre, African Youth Development Fund and Kitsonet NPO. Stakeholders Active Youngins Foundation, Believers Care Society, Khulisa Social Services, Moffat View SAPS, health promoter Evodia Barry and Ke Moja also came on board.

They were also joined by the Department of Sports Arts, Culture and recreation in conjunction with the libraries unit in making the event a success.

The programme entailed traditional attire showcasing, dancing, engaging activities as well as educational talks from various stakeholders and locals.

Kgomotso Dlamini of the Cross Culture Committee said the event was themed ‘drugs are not my heritage’.

“As a collective, who has the interest of the community at heart, the initiative was to embrace unity in diversity, with the notion that your culture is my culture. We decided to close the month with seniors because they are our gems,” she said.

Nomfundo Ndlovu of Sanca told the COURIER that similar events should be hosted more often.

“The event was all about knowing who you are and where you come from. I feel like we should always celebrate being Africans and at Sanca we are all about cherishing self-pride,” she said.

Senior Thandi Ndlovu thanked the team for their visit and said they had a wonderful day.
