Ward 55 teams up with Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to feed its community

Meals and food parcels for people of the South.

Baboo’s Crew, in alliance with Ward 55 councillor Rashida Landis and a special sponsorship from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, packaged and distributed 350 food hampers to the underprivileged, unemployed and elderly within the community on October 26.

Long queues didn’t deter the spirit of the crew on a cold and rainy day at the recreation centre in Robertsham.

Uncle Baboo said these people were waiting from the early hours of the morning to receive their hampers.

“In addition, we also cooked chicken akhni to distribute. A special thank you to councillor Rashida Landis and our sponsor from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for assisting our community. We would also like to thank all those who assisted us in the cooking and distribution,” he said.

Landis said this was a great gesture from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and they would like to tighten the bond with them so they can reach more people in the area.

“This was not the first time they donated food parcels. They gave us 100 before and we were able to help 250 people. We thank them for their generosity,” she said.

MP for Johannesburg South Manny de Freitas, who was also in attendance, praised Landis for the sterling work she has been doing in the community.

“She has been working for the community for years. And the exciting part is that the partnership with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will benefit so many more people.

“I call her ‘Mother Teresa’ because of her work. The impact is real in people’s lives. Through councillor Landis, people’s lives change. And this is what we should be doing in politics, changing people’s lives.

“Well done to her. The next step is to pledge more so that people can get help,” said de Freitas.
