Councillor’s wishes for academic calendar

High school learners were excited to be back at school.

Many learners headed back to school on January 12. While some were excited, others were not as they could not find placements in schools yet.

Ward 57 councillor Faeeza Chame believes that every learner has a right to quality education irrespective of their background. She said she is confident that the Department of Education will find schools soon to place these learners who could not be placed.

“I took the time to interact with some of the learners and also visited some of the schools. The reaction received was twofold, the Grade One learners were still scared as they entered a new world. However, the high school learners were excited to be back.

“After a long period doing virtual learning, they hope that 2022 will be better than last year. I expect that lots of learners will be looking forward to being back in classrooms and seeing their teachers and friends in person. With all this excitement, we just want to remind everyone to be safe in school and on your way to school; always be vigilant of your surroundings.

“We also need to caution motorists to drive safely, especially around school premises. To our educators, I thank you for being dedicated to our learners. I wish you a prosperous year ahead,” added Chame.
