WATCH: The Hill residents deserve better services
More can be done if authorities are quick in addressing service delivery problems.
Lodge owner Manny de Andrade from The Hill has had enough of the problems in Trossachs and Virginia roads because if water is not pushing up or rains filling up an open manhole, it is cable theft.
The COURIER met with him on December 15 last year about all these issues; however, by January 19, nothing has been done to remedy the situation.
He said this has been reported several times to the authorities and local councillor; however, it falls on deaf ears. In Trossachs Road, he said about 27 accidents have happened in as many months.

“There is a big manhole cover that was stolen and cars keep on getting stuck in this manhole. They are normally badly damaged after falling into it. Once it is covered with water due to leakages in the area or when it is raining you will never see it until it is too late. We don’t sleep at night because cars will always fall into this manhole.
“On Virginia Road, there have been several cable thefts that have caused me a lot of money because I have tenants who will go without electricity for some time because of cable theft. These criminals would also damage the cables that support the poles. In turn, making the rest of the poles on the verge of collapsing,” explained de Andrade.

Ward 56 councillor Michael Crichton said it has been challenging to get issues resolved during the December period, with council being on recess and most entities only operating with skeleton staff.
“However, I have spoken to my urban inspector and I will be meeting with her. She will make notes of the issues, will log them and we place pressure on the relevant entities to resolve these issues,” he said.
A request for comment was sent to City Power. However, at the time of going to press, no response had been received.
