What a sporting day in Ward 57

More sporting codes to be introduced in Ward 57.

A great sporting day was held in Ward 57 on February 12 thanks to the founder of Corinthians Soccer Club, Jack Msibi.

Ward 57 councillor Faeeza Chame commends Msibi’s effort in making the youth more active.

She said three years ago she met Msibi in the streets of South Hills.

“He stopped me and told me that he had a soccer club but they have no playgrounds. At that time there were no soccer grounds available. Then a couple of months later the ground in La Rochelle was abandoned and vandalised. I was seeking a club or an organisation that could look after this ground.

“Then Msibi came to mind and I just took a chance with him. I handed him the keys to the premises and gave him a temporary lease. Since he took over you could see the difference in the community. The youth started becoming more active.

“Apart from that, Msibi and his partners maintained the place and they kept it neat. I knew that my choice was the right one.

“I will support him in every way I can. I believe that our youth needs stimulation and the community needs upliftment. Corinthians Soccer Club is expanding. I was also very thrilled that cricket will be introduced. This is a first in our area.

“We can only go from strength to strength. Lots still need to be done and funding will play a major role in doing so,” explained Chame.
