CoJ EMS joins search and rescue mission in KZN

Experinced search and rescue team heading to KZN.

Nine technicians from the City of Johannesburg EMS-Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) have joined search and rescue efforts in KwaZulu-Natal as part of the deployment of the Gauteng USAR.

The deployment came after Gauteng CoGTA requested the City of Johannesburg to avail technicians to join the search and rescue mission after KwaZulu-Natal was hit by heavy rains and flooding, which resulted in the loss of lives and displacement.

The group of technicians deployed to KZN consists of the most experienced officials who have participated in various global incidents ranging from the earthquake in Algeria, Haiti, Japan tsunami and earthquake and heavy rains in Malawi.

The MMC for Public Safety in the City of Johannesburg, David Tembe, extended his good wishes to the team and urged them to represent the City well.

“I wish this team of experienced professionals well as they embark on the rescue and recovery mission in KZN. We are proud to offer our colleagues in KZN assistance in time of need and in every little way we believe our participation in the rescue mission will yield positive results for all affected,” said Tembe.
