Mall of the South: All Resthaven’s wishes fulfilled this Mandela Day

Resthaven, orphanage and old age home in Johannesburg South, had a wish list of items they desperately needed on Mandela Day.

Resthaven, orphanage and old age home in Johannesburg South, had a wish list of items they desperately needed, so on Mandela Day, Mall of the South, together with SOJO stepped in.

The mall completely embraced the #helpthyneighbour initiative when it fulfilled all of Resthaven’s wishes and then some, with the help of the community and businesses in the Joburg South area.

Since its founding in 1979, Resthaven has existed with the intention of assisting and improving the lives of those who are in need and living in poverty.

Danelle Coulson and Portia Ntlemo from Gold Reef City are all smiles with Neil William (the CEO of Resthaven).

Resthaven is now able to build a future for these individuals because of your support.

Enough was donated, in the form of perishable food items, cleaning supplies, clothes, toiletries, bath and hand towels, children’s pyjamas, curtains, baking materials and equipment, to last a long time.

They will also receive assistance with a car port at Camelia House, veranda repairs, driveway repairs, and floor sanding at the Children’s Home.

A printer, vacuum cleaner, yard brooms, emergency lights, and globes for their homes have also been provided.
At Entrance 2, the mall positioned a donation box for collections.

The mall acknowledges the community’s contribution, which included toys, clothing, shoes, and other gifts, as well as the efforts of businesses who did their bit to #helpthyneighbour.

A big thank you to RocoMamas and Spur who did what they do best by providing delicious food for the guests and the young and senior residents of Resthaven.

“When you can get your community to come together, you achieve so much more than trying to do it on your own – that is what #helptheyneighbour is all about for me,” said Mall of the South general manager Hester Smith.

Resthaven’s CEO Neil Williams said the generosity will be life-changing for Resthaven and will help them improve the lives of those under their care.

Neil Williams (CEO of Resthaven), gives a heartfelt thank you to the community and corporates for their donations.

“Besides this, it’s a great encouragement to the management and staff to have this kind of support and goodwill. We’re grateful to all the donors who played a role in making all these incredible things happen and fulfilling our wish list.
