Learners receive spectacles after vision screening

Organisations partnered to improve the lives of learners through their eye-care project.

An eye-care project spearheaded by the South African Life Improvement Charitable Trust (SALICT) has seen learners from Palm Ridge Primary School receive needed glasses.

This is after Alberton Lions Club joined SALICT in hosting a free vision screening for hundreds of learners at the school.

On August 2, out of 33 learners who had been tested and found to be needing glasses, 18 of the learners received them.

The vision screening was done to determine which learners required eye tests by a qualified optometrist.

Rajesh Ramdass of SALICT said they will continue hereafter and wherever more glasses are required, they then will be sponsored from SALICT.

“Optometrist and owner Doreen Machetele of Vision Centre Thokoza did the testing for SALICT and issued scripts to learners needing spectacles. Sri Sathya Sai Global Council Centre of Palm Ridge was the project lead,” he said.

He said this was conducted so that learners do not deteriorate in their learning.

Acting principal Sinthamalar Pillay previously thanked SALICT and the Lions Club for the wonderful initiative and generous gesture.
