National Council of SPCA inspector robbed at gunpoint
The NSPCA is now in desperate need of two Toyota Hilux Single Cabs to continue its work efficiently.

Inspectors of the National Council of SPCAs (NSPCA) are equipped to deal with almost anything.
Each day, they go out and face aggressive animal abusers
“We witness severe cases of animal cruelty. We travel in areas where few others dare to travel. We risk our lives against fires and floods to help displaced animals in need. Nothing can ever adequately prepare one for the trauma attached to being a victim of an armed robbery,” said Keshvi Nair, public relations officer of NSPCA in Alberton.
“Last week, one of our female inspectors was robbed at gunpoint by a group of unknown men in Lenasia. The men stole the NSPCA’s Toyota Hilux, along with all the important equipment in the van. This included our captive bolt pistol needed for the humane euthanasia of large animals.
“We are very fortunate that our inspector made it out of this ordeal physically unharmed. A case has been opened at the SAPS. However, no arrests have been made and the van is not at the location indicated by the tracker.

“Our vehicles are the lifeline of our work given that the NSPCA travels across South Africa to help animals in need, especially in areas where there are no SPCAs, no animal welfare organisations and no State veterinarians.”
Without the vehicle, the NSPCA cannot reach animals in a compromised position or do proactive work to prevent suffering. The NSPCA is now in desperate need of two Toyota Hilux Single Cabs to continue its work efficiently.
The NSPCA needs R235 000 to purchase a new Toyota Hilux Single cab.
This specific vehicle is needed because it can transport animals, tow a heavy horsebox, travel over rough terrain and withstand the extensive travelling done each day.
“The NSPCA appeals to our supporters to donate towards purchasing a new vehicle. Alternatively, if you can donate a Hilux single cab, we would be much obliged,” Nair said.
