A group of five suspects robbed a business in Palm Ridge where shots were fired.
According to Warrant Officer Gerhard Cornelius, the suspects got into a white Nissan Almera and sped off.
The car was spotted by CPF members from the Eden Park neighbourhood, who then called for assistance.
Soon after, officers from the Gauteng Highway Patrol intervened and began chasing the suspects’ car.
The chase went in the direction of Alrode South and on the corners of JG Strydom and Kliprivier streets when the suspects’ vehicle collided with a red Kia and immediately turned onto Kliprivier Road in an attempt to get away,” said Cornelius.
Fortunately, none of the Kia’s occupants was hurt.
At this point, the SAPS RR, Brackendowns SAPS, CPF and security companies were already in pursuit.
The driver of the car lost control and swerved off Kliprivier Road and crashed into the wall of the Leopards Rest complex.
The Gauteng Highway Patrol officers were at the suspects before they realised what had happened and they were apprehended.
Four men were arrested and three pistols with ammunition were found.
“Two distinct sets of number plates were discovered inside the car when SAPS officers conducted a more thorough check. One set belonged to a white Nissan,” the Warrant Officer said.
SAPS Brackendown has opened a case for unlawful firearm and ammunition possession and SAPS Eden Park has opened a case for a business robbery.
“Thank you to those who were directly involved, it shows that the community and partners of SAPS Brackendowns stand together in the fight against crime,” Cornelius concluded.
