Alberton SAPS arrested two suspects for illegal possession of a pangolin through an intelligence-driven operation held on December 11.
According to Alberton SAPS spokesperson captain Manare Ramotshela, authorities received information about the suspect’s illegitimate possession of a species that was protected by the nation’s constitution.
“The suspects were spotted by our officers as they prepared to sell the pangolin. The suspects were approached, and the law enforcement officials introduced themselves and asked for permission to search for what was in their bag,” said Ramotshela.
The pangolin was recovered and seized.
The suspects are expected to appear in the Palmridge Magistrate’s Court on December 12.
