Hindu community hosts fundraiser

Attendees had a delightful experience that included dancing, a banquet and stunning performances at a dinner dance fundraiser.

It was a great night out for community members and those from the surrounding areas, who showed up in their numbers at the Bracken Park Community Hall.

Shiva Shakti Mandir, formerly known as the Gauteng Sanathan Mandir, hosted its dinner dance fundraiser on the evening of March 18.

Themed a masquerade, the occasion aimed to raise funds to buy a property for use as a temple.

According to Navin Ajoodha, the chairperson of Shiva Shakti Mandir, this, their first fundraiser, was a resounding success.

“In the Mulbarton, Liefde en Vrede, Glenvista and Glenanda areas, there is no Hindu mandir. The Gauteng Sanathan Mandir started in a garage. It ran as an informal organisation but evolved over time. Our members co-ordinated the function, and we had a great response, with the proceeds to be used to purchase property,” he explained.

He said they would have more functions and festivals later in the year.

Mrs India South Africa 2012, Samantha Chetty, was also in attendance.
