Get ready for the 2023 Street Store

The Street Store is a nationwide project which is headed in Alberton by Doxa Deo Meyersdal.

The Street Store Project, under the leadership of the Doxa Deo Meyersdal team, will take place at Ligstad on May 20 from 08:00 to 13:00.

This is a pop-up, free shopping experience catering for those in need and focusing on providing winter essentials. The needy and homeless will be invited to “shop” for clothing and shoes for free.

There are a few ways in which you can take part in the project.

Rupert Jacques van Wyk showing his joy and appreciation of a new pair of shoes.

Firstly through the donation of old clothing such as shirts, pants, shoes, jerseys, jackets and other warm items, sizes 28-38. Please ensure that all items are neat and not ripped or with holes. Food items such as sugar, coffee, creamer, cold drinks, flour, oil and eggs are needed as well.

Ligstad is a drop-off point for all donations at 32 Van Riebeeck Avenue, Alberton North.

“We are also in need of accessories, such as coat hangers and plastic bags so that our street shopper are able to take their shopping home,” said the organisers.

You are also welcome to serve as a volunteer on the day. In this instance you will assist the shoppers as an usher, to find clothes that will fit them.

The day was touching for both the ushers and patrons. Jan Pretorius walked hand in hand with Dion Hendricks to help him choose and hear his story.

Training to be a volunteer will take place on May 19 at 09:00.

“We wish to come together as a community and assist those in need, as this is our God given duty to glorify His name! Hope to see you there.”
