On a mission to help make memories

Through her project, she aims to create a more inclusive and memorable matric farewell experience for all matriculants, proving that age is no barrier to making a positive impact in the lives of others.

Zanelle Huyzers, a compassionate and motivated young resident of Verwoerdpark, has been actively involved in charitable activities within her community for nine years.

Undeterred by the passage of time, she continues to make a significant impact. Currently, she is dedicated to her latest project, which focuses on assisting matriculants to attend their matric farewell.

A night not to be missed

Explaining her inspiration for focusing on helping matriculants, Zanelle said, “Some of them can’t always afford it, and as a result, they miss out on the most important day of matric. I want them to feel special and be able to participate fully in this milestone event.”

In 2019, Zanelle helped girls in need find beautiful dresses. With the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic, she decided to revive the project this year, ensuring that all girls can look forward to their matric farewell without feeling ashamed or excluded due to their financial circumstances.

“No matriculant must miss their special night and it is my goal to make it a memorable one for those involved in my project,” she said.

“I plan to assist as many needy matriculants as possible through my project.”

Loads of spoils

With a wide range of beautiful dresses available, she aims to cater to all sizes and ensure that every matriculant can find the perfect attire for their matric farewell.

By offering an extensive selection of stunning dresses, Zanelle Huyzer’s goal is to accommodate all body sizes and ensure that every matriculant discovers the ideal attire for their matric farewell.

To qualify for her assistance, matriculants simply need to be open and honest with her. She believes that everyone deserves a memorable and enjoyable matric farewell experience, regardless of their financial circumstances.

Her project goes beyond providing dresses. She also plans to offer assistance with makeup and nails, ensuring that the matriculants feel confident and ready for their special occasion. She is seeking support from the community to secure a photographer and hairdresser to enhance the matriculants’ experience.

When asked about how the community can assist her in this endeavour, Zanelle mentioned that donations of dresses would be greatly appreciated.

Setting an example

Zanelle has dedicated nine years of her life to giving back to those in need, setting an inspiring example for others to follow.

When asked about her motivation for engaging in community service at such a young age, Zanelle explained, “It’s important to learn at a young age to give back to the community and the elderly. There are a lot of people in need, and it’s our responsibility to help them.”

Zanelle Huyzers is prepared to once again provide assistance to those in need.

Her journey into community service began when she was driving past informal settlements as a child. Witnessing the challenging conditions that children faced, she was deeply moved and realised the need to take action.

Her genuine concern and empathy for others motivated her to continue contributing her time and efforts to make a positive difference. She firmly believes in the importance of individuals, particularly young people, assisting others in their communities.

“It’s important for everyone to give back to those in need, and learning this at a young age can’t do any harm. It’s always for a good cause. While we may not be able to change the world in an instant, we can make a difference bit by bit by bringing happiness to people’s lives,” she said.
