Jessica is changing the world one pet and one child at a time
A day in the life of an au pair and pet sitter.

As a dedicated pet sitter and au pair, Jessica Doyle (26) has cared for over 150 animals throughout her career.
This Albertonian’s love for animals began at a young age, fostering her lifelong dedication to their well-being.
A passion for animals and children
As an animal lover, Jessica’s passion influences her work as a pet sitter and au pair. She understands the needs and desires of both animals and children, providing them with love, attention, and understanding. She tailors her care to suit each one individually, ensuring they receive the personalised attention they deserve.

“I faced challenges during my work, such as handling unfriendly pit bulls, but have learned the importance of establishing trust and patience in such situations, highlighting the need to be familiar with the animals before venturing into new environments,” she said.
“I treasure each furry companion, but one memorable experience was looking after a baby who is a lively and delightful companion.”
The relationships Jessica builds with animals and children are the most rewarding aspect of her role. She takes great joy in their happiness and strives to make a difference.
Jessica actively supports local initiatives and collaborates with organisations like the Animal Protection Network and Southside Sterries, advocating for the welfare of abused and neglected animals.
Jessica advises all aspiring pet sitters and au pairs to pursue their passion wholeheartedly and go the extra mile.
“Make sure you have good listening skills and sensitivity. Genuine love for the work is crucial to impact the lives of animals and children positively,” she said.
She also believes in being a voice for the voiceless and encourages the community to stand together in support.
On a personal note
Jessica was born and raised in Alberton. She comes from a family of seven siblings but currently lives independently. Her fondest childhood memory is the carefree and happy nature she experienced during that time.

Jessica continues to live in Alberton, where she has lived for over 26 years. She attended the Alberview Primary School until Grade Three, then transferred to Leeuwenhof, an Afrikaans school, until Grade Six. For high school, she spent Grades Seven to 10 at Bekker Hoërskool in Magaliesburg and completed Grades 11 and 12 at a night school in Alberton.
After finishing school, Jessica worked at a local veterinary clinic for a few years before transitioning into her current role as an au pair and pet sitter.
While not married, she has been in a relationship for three years. “We met 10 years ago through a mutual friend and eventually found our way back to each other.”
In her spare time, Jessica enjoys spending quality time with her mother, friends, and pets, as well as bonding with her au pair child.
She enjoys hiking, cherishes moments with her beloved animals, and finds joy in the company of positive people.
“Being outdoors also brings me immense happiness.”
Inspiration and drive
For inspiration, Jessica looks up to her mother, a single parent who raised their family independently. Her mother’s strength and resilience had a profound impact on her life, and they share a close bond.

If there is one thing she would change about the world, it would be encouraging more kindness.
“I believe small acts of kindness can make a significant difference in people’s lives.
Her favourite saying reflects this belief, “It costs you absolutely nothing to be kind to others.”
If Jessica could pursue another career, she would choose to be an international actress. “Being able to support her family and provide her mother with a better life is a driving motivation behind this choice,” she said.
In describing herself, Jessica exudes happiness and a bubbly personality. She possesses an abundance of love and kindness to share with others and animals.
Always ready to lend a helping hand, she strives to improve herself and her surroundings, constantly learning and growing.
