Youth programme hosted for foster children at Alberton Child Welfare

To create awareness and social change, Alberton Child Welfare hosted educational programmes on the social ills prevalent in the community for the youth of the greater Alberton area.

The staff at Alberton Child Welfare hosted an awareness youth programme for about 50 children, including foster children, at their offices on July 12 and 13.

The programme touched on topical issues, including grief and bereavement, HIV and Aids, career guidance, substance abuse and teenage pregnancy. The presentations were prepared and facilitated by the staff at Alberton Child Welfare.

“The community educators from the Alberton clinic also presented on teenage pregnancy. The attendees participated during each presentation and asked questions while contributing to the programme’s success.

“The attendees received literature on each topic that they could refer to and read in their own time,” explained Anubha Mackerdhuj, the director of Alberton Child Welfare.

She said the group attending gave positive feedback on the programme and asked that they do the programme during all school holidays.
