Brackendowns SAPS are investigating an inquest docket after a human head was found at a company in Alrode on August 10.
According to Captain Neldah Sekgobela, the SAPS Ekurhuleni district communications officer, police responded to a complaint at Imperial Cargo, Baron Street in Alrode. On arrival, they spoke to an African male who explained that there was a human head (sex unknown) stuck between the gearbox and the filter of a Volvo truck.
Officers went to check and found the human head.
“The driver of the truck was interviewed and he explained that on August 10 at 06:00 he received the truck from another male of Argagh Logistics Park Sterkfontein,” she said.
Sekgobela said the one who received the truck said before he could inspect the one who handed him the truck, told him that whilst he was driving on the R21 highway near Olifantsfontein off-ramp he saw a vehicle with its hazards on, he thought maybe the vehicle stopped to repair a puncture or something.
“As he got closer, he saw a human body lying on the road. He could not apply harsh braking but managed to slow the truck down, driving slowly over the human body with the truck and the human body was between the wheels of the truck. The wheels did not touch the human body,” said Sekgobela.
The driver alleged that he stopped and inspect the truck but did not see anything and he continued with his journey.
Sekgobela reiterated that the one who received the truck, after receiving it, said he also checked after he was told about the incident but also saw nothing.
He allegedly drove from Clayville to Alrode Overnight Logistics to offload the truck.
“Whilst busy offloading the truck he went to check again just to make sure. It is when he discovered that a human head is stuck between the gearbox and air filter,” added.
The police and other role players were then contacted and an inquest docket was registered at Brackendowns SAPS.
