Teen to box in Denmark

The 13-year-old was recently interviewed by Thabiso Mosia, SABC 2’s TKO show presenter.

Thirteen-year-old Sheldon Stols continues to show signs of a future boxer and fighter to be reckoned with. Recently, Thabiso Mosia of SABC 2’s TKO show interviewed him.

This Grade Seven Laerskool Randhart learner dreams of being a boxing world champion. Also known as ‘The IG Brawler’, Sheldon looks up to SA boxers Kaine Fourie and Phumelele Cafu.

His favourite US fighters are Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis and the legendary Mike ‘Iron’ Tyson. The IG Brawler will compete in the Nova Championships in February.

Sheldon is 10 – 2, meaning he has won 10 fights and lost two.

“I do not see my losses as losses. I see them as lessons. They are a learning curve. Either you win, or you learn,” said Sheldon.

“My mom didn’t want me to do boxing, but my dad supported my desire. That is why he opened a boxing gym with Shaun Potgieter. My mom does, however, come and watch my fights,” added Sheldon.

Besides preparing for the February champs, Sheldon is among a group of fighters selected to represent the Booysens Boxing Club in Denmark towards the end of 2025.

Nicky Ness is Sheldon’s coach, and the youngster jokingly describes him as being “tough”. A motivating factor for the teen is his late grandparents, to whom he dedicates his fights.

Sheldon’s training includes running around Alberton neighbourhoods, covering stretches of 5km and sparring. He also regularly trains with other fighters.

When not boxing, Sheldon enjoys playing rugby and angling. Follow Sheldon’s social media pages to keep up with him: @sheldon_ig_brawler on Instagram and TikTok.
