Young maths talent earns prestigious opportunity

The job-shadowing opportunity highlights the power of focus and academic excellence.

A Grade 11 learner from Calvary Christian College has shown that determination and talent can open doors to remarkable opportunities, even at a young age.

Dylan Nkomo, a dedicated mathematics learner at the school, recently took an important step towards a future in the field by participating in a prestigious actuarial science job-shadowing experience at Ernst & Young. Guided by his mathematics teacher, Ms Nyembe, Dylan earned his place among a small group of selected learners from across the province.

The opportunity was highly competitive, with candidates chosen based on academic excellence, discipline and a clear passion for mathematics. Dylan stood out among his peers, demonstrating not only strong intellectual ability but also consistency and a willingness to challenge himself.

A representative from Calvary Christian College expressed pride in his achievement, saying, “Dylan has shown exceptional commitment to his studies. He approaches mathematics with both curiosity and determination, and this opportunity reflects the effort he has put in over time.”

During his time at the firm, Dylan was introduced to the field of actuarial science, where mathematics is used to solve real-world problems. He observed how professionals analyse risk and use data to guide important business decisions. The experience gave him valuable insight into a career that plays a key role in shaping industries and economies.

The school believes this milestone is not only significant for Dylan but also encouraging for other learners.

“His success is a reminder that hard work and focus can lead to meaningful opportunities,” the school added. “We hope his journey inspires others to pursue their goals with confidence.”

As he continues his studies, his experience serves as a strong foundation for what promises to be a bright, carefully calculated future.
