Fidelity security halts hostage situation at The Glen Shopping Centre

Fidelity Security Services and Fidelity Specialised Unit save the day by preventing a hostage situation at The Glen Shopping Centre with their quick response on August 28.

Fidelity Security Services and Fidelity Specialised Unit joined forces to halt a potentially dangerous hostage situation at The Glen Shopping Centre around 11:10 on August 28.

Upon investigation, they found a customer at a financial institution was held hostage by two unarmed suspects who demanded ransom money of R15 000.

Charnel Hattingh, the group head of marketing & communications at Fidelity, commended the vigilance and quick thinking of a bank staff member who recognised the gravity of the situation.

“The staff member promptly alerted the security manager, who wasted no time calling Fidelity’s assistance,” said Hattingh.

“The prompt reaction from the Glen Shopping Centre security to the alert and quick thinking ensured that this situation ended favourably.”

The Glen Shopping Centre general manager, Glen Maboe, said, “We are proud of how The Glen security team swiftly handled the situation and assisted the staff member on his alert. We encourage all shoppers and staff to remain on alert as we approach the festive period. The safety of our shoppers and staff remains our priority.”

Hattingh also lauded the bank employees’ unwavering commitment to security procedures and their quick thinking, which directly contributed to the arrest of the suspects.

Hattingh expressed her appreciation for the employee’s rapid response in alerting the authorities, emphasizing the pressing issue of kidnapping and ransom incidents in South Africa.

She underscored the significance of promptly addressing these crimes and ensuring that such audacious criminals are removed from the streets, thereby enhancing the safety and security of the community.
