War on zama zamas continues in Ward 125

Councillor thanks the brave women and men who are involved in fighting illegal mining.

Private security companies joined forces with SAPS and JMPD to fight the illegal mining and damage to the infrastructure in Ward 125.

Ward 125 Clr Matsobane Sekhu said the war on zama zamas is an ongoing process. He said they would get a tip-off about the whereabouts of their processing plants. Once found, they are destroyed, and the equipment confiscated.

There are often undocumented foreign nationals from Lesotho, Mozambique and Zimbabwe who run these plants in Kibler Park and Eikenhof informal settlements.

At one stage, Sekhu said they went to the Jackson informal settlement at a process plant. Processing equipment was confiscated, and suspects, and all evidence were handed over to Mondeor SAPS.
