Escaped Boksburg prisoner re-arrested in Moffat View

An inmate serving a 20-year sentence was successfully re-arrested following a joint operation by multiple law enforcement agencies.

An inmate who escaped from the Boksburg Correctional Centre on Wednesday has been re-arrested in the Moffat View area this afternoon.

According to CPS Security director Tyrone van der Merwe, the CPS tactical team coordinated with Johannesburg Correctional Services EST after receiving information about the fugitive’s whereabouts.

“While searching various addresses, we received reliable information that the suspect was spotted in the Moffat View area. Our team responded along with EST, EMPD, and SAPS. The suspect was tracked down and successfully apprehended,” he said.

Van der Merwe said the suspect was transported to C-Max Prison, where he will serve the remainder of his sentence along with additional time for the escape.

“We would like to thank Alberton SAPS, CPS Security, Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department CLU, and Johannesburg Correctional Services EST for ensuring an escaped prisoner is back where he belongs,” added Van der Merwe.

Department of Correctional Services spokesperson Singabakho Nxumalo says Martin Jackson, first admitted on April 10, 2015, is serving a 20-year sentence for robbery, theft and possession of a firearm and ammunition.
