Law enforcers dealt illegal mining activities a significant blow in a community operation that led to the arrest of seven zama zamas in Kibler Park on February 22.

This achievement proved the power of community collaboration and consistency in fighting illegal mining after residents, the CPF, the Mondeor SAPS, Fox Security and Nighthawk Security carried out the operation.

This multi-faceted approach to addressing this complex issue demonstrated the effectiveness of their collaboration.

The community members’ willingness to share vital information and report suspicious activities was instrumental in ensuring a successful operation.

The provincial commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, said illegal mining is unlawful and perilous and that people and communities must work together to eradicate it.

Ward 125 Clr Matsobane Sekhu said, “These operations are integral to removing illegal miners causing problems with infrastructure and committing various crimes. The collaboration of key role players has provided evidence of the proactive approach taken by officials and law enforcement against criminals.

“As this operation was successful, the community must also acknowledge the ongoing challenges posed by illegal mining. Role players remain committed to upholding the rule of law and ensuring the safety and well-being of our community,” said Sekhu.
