Danger on the N12: Motorists targeted by stone throwers
The Mondeor CPF and security companies increase patrols as motorists report attacks between the Comaro and Kliprivier off-ramps.
Motorists using the N12 highway are urged to be on high alert following a recent rise in reports of stones being thrown at passing vehicles between the Comaro Street and Kliprivier Road off-ramps.
The affected section of the highway is a busy route for many Alberton and Johannesburg South residents travelling to and from work, shopping centres, and schools.
According to Mondeor Community Policing Forum (CPF) chairperson Mike Fontes, the incidents have caused growing concern among residents and commuters who use the route daily.
Fontes said that over the past few weeks, several motorists have reported being targeted along this stretch of the highway.
Security companies, together with Mondeor Sector 1 CPF patrol members, have increased visible policing and monitoring in the affected area in an effort to ensure motorists’ safety.

“If you are ever targeted, continue driving until you reach a safe, well-lit area or the nearest police station before seeking help,” Fontes advised.
The CPF has urged motorists to immediately report any suspicious behaviour, gatherings, or individuals spotted along the highway.
Reports can be directed to the Mondeor Sector 1 CPF duty phone at 076 898 8011.

- Stay alert and limit distractions. Avoid using your phone while driving.
- Report all suspicious incidents. Contact your local CPF, private security, or the SAPS.
- Plan your route. If possible, travel during daylight hours and inform someone of your route.
