Court lifts accused’s bail conditions
The Mulbarton restaurant murder case got a third trial date
Daniel Rowland, accused of murder and possession of drugs following a 2021 shooting at the Il Camino Restaurant in Mulbarton, made his first appearance of 2026 at the Booysens Magistrate’s Court on February 5.
At the last court appearance of 2025, Rowland’s attorneys, Mohammed Mayet and Christo Meiring, were absent.
Magistrate Hasina Habib threatened to report the case to the Judge President as a delayed case.
Although Mayet was in court on September 29, 2025, the case was again postponed for Meiring to come on record for the defence. He finally came on record after recovering from surgery.
Meiring proposed that a final trial date be set by the court, as he needed time to prepare his case. Magistrate Habib then lifted the accused’s bail conditions that had been in place for almost five years.
Habib set the trial date for June 23, on the basis that the defence cannot apply for further postponements until the finalisation of the trial.
