Informal settlement welcomes Joburg council speaker and councilor’s help

A great gesture by the city to the informal settlement.

Joburg council speaker Colleen Makhubele and Ward 57 Clr Faeeza Chame visited Springbok informal settlement to help residents with food, clothes and a wheelchair on February 21.

Chame thanked the generous sponsors and Makhubele for the contribution of the much-needed clothes, toys, fruits and vegetables. The highlight was a wheelchair for a most deserving recipient.

“When visiting Springbok informal settlement, I met a family that is a product of what South Africa is currently experiencing. Teboho Ntsoeu is a professional, but due to an accident, he found himself in a wheelchair. He and his wife both lost their jobs and their home during the economic struggle.

“They had no choice but to put up a shack in the informal settlement. They told me they were hiring a wheelchair for R500 a month and were in arrears. I thought this wasn’t right. They hardly have money for daily necessities and to still pay a monthly rental for a chair puts an extra burden on them.

With the assistance of the office of the speaker, Colleen Makhubele, the family was blessed with a brand-new wheelchair.

“I was extremely grateful for this gesture. This has shown me that there is still hope and good people in our midst,” Chame said.
