Glenvista residents fed-up with outstanding issues of Rand Water project
The long-awaited meeting between Rand Water and Ward 23 Clr Tyrell Meyers regarding the incomplete project in Glenvista Ext 4 took place on April 19.
Residents are at their wits’ end because there was no movement on the project, and the contractors left the area in a mess.
Rand Water and Meyers had an onsite meeting about the outstanding issues.
According to Meyers, the contractors completed installing the pipes but haven’t completed the restoration of the natural stream in the environment and the vegetation at the corner of Donington Drive and Comaro Bridge.
“Before I was elected councillor, the project had already begun, and there was a lot of frustration because it had come to a halt. I feel the community’s frustration because it is their land value and their property that is affected.

“I then arranged a meeting with Rand Water to see what the incompletion looks like since it is their project and to get the community to express their frustration. The meeting served as an answer to residents about what was going on and what the plans were.
“I must say, it was quite fruitful. At least now we know what is going on and what will happen. All we want is for them to finish what they started and restore the park to its former glory,” said Meyer.
Meyers said Rand Water promised to give him an estimated completion date, and he will continue communicating with the community concerning the park’s restoration.
Resident Trevor Hulleman said the project has been ongoing for quite some time and is incomplete, posing a risk to them.

“We have reached a point where we are sick and tired of it. We are not saying we want to take it into our own hands, but we are certainly contacting the Green Scorpions because of the environmental damage. We are putting a lot of pressure on our councillor, and he is doing his best, but we have reached a point where we are tired now.
“They (Rand Water) assured us the project would be complete in three months and that we would receive regular weekly feedback. We will hold them accountable if they do not deliver on their promises. All we ask is that the project be completed, and the environment properly restored, which we require urgently.

“This is dangerous from an environmental standpoint because this area was always a lovely area where residents walked their dogs, but that is no longer possible because the environmental impact on the wildlife is hugely detrimental.
“It is dangerous from a criminal standpoint because crime has increased dramatically, and there were instances when criminals used the area to hide. It also affects the property value because it appears to be a crime scene,” said Hulleman.
