This was their biggest congress with delegates and observers attending from across its eight Wards. The Wards represented are 23, 54, 55, 56, 57, 68, 124 and 125.

The DA JHB South held its congress on May 6 in Forest Hill, where the new office bearers were elected and awards handed to outstanding performers in a variety of categories.

This was their biggest congress, with delegates and observers attending from across its wards. The Wards represented are 23, 54, 55, 56, 57, 68, 124 and 125.

They elected Michael Crichton as the new DA JHB south constituency chairperson. He thanked every delegate for their confidence in him, as this is one of the highlights of his political career.

“When I first joined the DA in 2010, I would never have expected that I would one day be the chairperson of the constituency. I would like to thank our outgoing chairperson, Tyrell Meyers, for his nine years of service in the position where he took us to new heights.

Moving to the task at hand we need to continue to grow our support within the constituency, leading up to the 2024 national and provincial elections so that we can contribute to the moonshot pact that our federal leader, John Steenhuisen, has touted and hopefully keep out the ANC/EFF doomsday coalition,” said Crichton.

The DA JHB south constituency political head and member of parliament, Manny de Freitas, said that this congress was a dream come true.

“I can remember when I was first deployed to this constituency as a young member of the provincial league in 1999. It was just me and two PR councillors representing the then DP in JHB South.

“There were times when I literally had to man tables by myself. I was determined to grow the structures to a point where we could have so many people attend our meetings that we would pack out a hall. Today we have realized this.
