See your waste collection schedule for the festive season

The December 31 shift will end at 17:00 in Selby.

Pikitup, the City of Johannesburg’s waste management entity, advises residents and business owners that refuse collection will happen on all the public holidays during the festive season except Christmas Day, December 25.

The waste collection schedule during the festive season for Southdale is December 15 and 26 and January 1, 2024. There will be refuse collection rounds, CBD cleaning, street cleaning, garden sites management, separation at source, informal settlements cleaning, hostels waste collection and clearing of illegal dumping.

For Selby, it will be December 15 and 26 and January 1, 2024. Residents must note that there will be no night shift on December 31. All three shifts combine on a staggered basis and end at 17:00 due to safety concerns. There will be refuse collection rounds, CBD cleaning, street cleaning, separation at source services and cleaning of informal settlements.

Pikitup spokesperson Muzi Mkhwanazi said Pikitup’s landfill sites will be open during the holidays except for December 25.

“Pikitup appeals to residents to refrain from giving Christmas gifts to its employees. Employees of Pikitup are not allowed to ask for gifts from residents because such acts were used by criminals in the past who pretended to be employees of the waste management company to pursue their criminal activities.

“Residents have also complained to Pikitup, alleging that its employees were intimidating them and forcefully demanding Christmas gifts,” he said.
