Five nabbed for illegal mining operation in Kibler Park

Illegal mining suspects arrested by JMPD officers in the South of Johannesburg.

The JMPD Tactical Response Unit and Operations officers received a tip-off about illegal miners operating in Kibler Park on January 6.

According to spokesperson of JMPD, Superintendent Xolani Fihla, the officers were immediately dispatched to the said location.

“Upon arrival, the officers made a follow-up on the information, which led them to Jackson informal settlement where illegal mining production was transpiring.

“The men, who were busy with their illegal operations, spotted the officers and attempted to flee. The officers apprehended five of them and recovered two illegal firearms and illegal mining equipment.

“The suspects were detained at Mondeor SAPS. Some of the suspects were also linked to the zama zama-related cases in the area,” said Fihla.
