Learners head to Eskom Expo International Science Fair
The Eskom Expo proudly announces that 308 local learners secured a spot in the prestigious Eskom Expo International Science Fair 2024 after competing against 14 500 participants nationally.
Three hundred and eight local learners, nine from Lesotho, India, Russia and Mexico, and nine young scientists from Turkey, Ghana, Mozambique, Kenya and Ireland, will get to showcase their research and engineering projects at the Emperors Palace Convention Centre.
The Eskom Expo International Science 2024 promises to be exciting and runs from September 23 to 27 at the convention centre.
These young, talented individuals will compete for top recognition and win life-changing rewards, including six full bursaries funded by the University of Pretoria, Babcock and Siemens Energy.
Wits University and the Alfeco Foundation are also offering partial bursaries. The total value of these bursaries is almost R3.7m.
The acting CEO of the Eskom Development Foundation, Mologadi Motshele, emphasised Eskom’s dedication to fostering the next generation of innovators and scientists.
“The Eskom Expo remains a vital platform to empower the next generation of innovators and scientists. The innovative solutions that the learners will present will directly address and resolve most of the challenges faced by our country while paving their way for a brighter and more sustainable future.”
Parthy Chetty, the expo’s executive director, highlighted the significant growth in girls pursuing STEMI (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Innovation) education.
“This positive trend marks an exciting shift towards a more inclusive future in these vital fields, where innovation and progress know no gender,” said Chetty.
