Corinthians greenhouse handover: A day of community and green thumbs

Handover brings La Rochelle community members together to promote food security.

On September 30, the Corinthians FC greenhouse handover event took place at Corinthians FC in La Rochelle, bringing together community members, stakeholders, sponsors, and volunteers for a day of cultivation and skills development.

The two greenhouses were donated as part of a community empowerment initiative between Corinthians FC and their sponsors.

The project has two main purposes: to provide young people in the community with a space to develop skills in agriculture and farming, and to establish a sustainable food source that gives community members access to fresh produce.

Some of the produce will also be sold to raise funds for the upkeep and maintenance of the greenhouses.

“We want to empower the community by providing them with skills, specifically in agriculture. The community will benefit from the produce as well because food security is also an issue that we want to address. I want to thank our sponsors for their help,” said Corinthians FC coach Jack Msibi.

The greenhouses were sponsored by Old Mutual, who also provided a borehole and irrigation system to ensure a reliable water supply for the crops.

The day brought together volunteers, including members of the Corinthians team, community helpers, and children from around La Rochelle.

For everyone involved, it was a chance to get their hands dirty in the garden while working toward a brighter, more sustainable future.
