Citizen Relationships and Urban Management, Region F Sport and Recreation, the Gauteng Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation Department, social development and Clicks made the event possible.
The celebration promoted social inclusion and well-being. There were inspirational talks, a guided tour of the zoo, a picnic, games and activities, such as swing ball, tug of war and a treasure hunt, all promoting teamwork and mental stimulation.
The event fostered a sense of community and belonging among seniors from diverse backgrounds, encouraging active ageing and social engagement.
Clr Faeeza Chame highlighted the importance of social engagement and community support for seniors during the event.
“We must honour and protect the senior citizens in our community. They made us who we are, and gave us the knowledge, care and belief to get us all where we are today. I honour and thank them for all they have done,” said Chame.
