WATCH: The Hamlet Foundation celebrates cookery graduates

The course enables people with disabilities to learn and grow skills that will give them more opportunities.

The Hamlet Foundation, a 70-year-old institution based in Rewlatch, Johannesburg South, is dedicated to supporting people with disabilities.

The foundation hosted a graduation ceremony on February 11 for 16 of its members who completed a professional cookery course.

The cookery training was provided by TSEBO, the catering partner of The Hamlet Foundation.

Members who showed particular interest and capability in cooking were selected for the course, which combined theoretical lessons with extensive practical work.

The curriculum equipped participants with essential skills in cooking techniques, food hygiene, food selection, safety procedures, first aid and other competencies designed to foster personal growth and independence.

The Hamlet Foundation, which has been serving people with disabilities for seven decades, was founded by the parents of current deputy chairperson Sharon Marseille. Her brother, Paul, was the foundation’s first resident.

The celebration highlighted the Foundation’s commitment to empowering individuals with disabilities through vocational training and partnerships with industry experts like TSEBO.

This enables graduates to pursue opportunities in the culinary field and enhance their self-reliance.

Segri Subrumuny, the CEO of the Hamlet Foundation, expressed her pride in the members who graduated.

“We are so proud of our members who achieved their certification. They are an example for everyone. I want to also thank all our generous sponsors and volunteers for all they have done,” said Subrumuny.
